Selivanenko appreciated the game of Rublev and Karatsev at the start of Wimbledon
Alexei Selivanenko, Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation, member of the ITF Board of Directors, noted the confident victory of Andrei Rublev in the first round of Wimbledon, and also appreciated the game of Aslan Karatsev.
Rublev (7th seed) in the first round of the tournament on Monday beat the Australian Max Purcell with a score of 6:3, 7:5, 6:4, Karatsev was stronger than the French Luc van Asch – 6:7 (4:7), 6 :4, 6:2, 6:4. In the second round, the Russians will play each other.
– Rublev won a landslide victory without dragging out the match. Only three sets, in each of which he had an advantage and brought it to its logical conclusion. Andrei definitely succeeded in the first round match. He played the way he would have liked at this stage,” Selivanenko told Vprognoze.ru.
The functionary also noted the importance of Karatsev’s victory at the start of the Grand Slam tournament.
– Despite losing the first set in the tie-break, Karatsev was able to quickly restore the balance at first, and then turn the game in his favor. For him it is very important. For Aslan, every victory in a big tournament is of great importance,” Selivanenko said.
Rublev and Karatsev had previously held one personal meeting, in which Aslan turned out to be stronger.
