Wimbledon organizers consider the decision to admit Russians to be correct, the athletes signed the necessary declaration
Executive Director of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) Sally Bolton spoke positively about the organization’s decision to allow Russian and Belarusian players to Wimbledon in 2023.
– We believe that this is the right decision for the championship this year – quoted Bolton Yahoo! news.
In March 2023, it was announced that Russians were allowed to participate in the British Grand Slam tournament in a neutral status, subject to signing a declaration of neutrality.
Bolton noted that the athletes signed the necessary document. When asked for details, she said that “everything went very smoothly.”
In December, AELTC was fined €1 million by the ATP and WTA for not allowing Russians and Belarusians to compete at Wimbledon in 2022. In addition, the British round was stripped of ranking points. Later, at the end of June 2023, the fine was halved.
In 2023, Wimbledon takes place from 3 to 16 July.
