Rain help. Kostyuk takes eighth place at Wimbledon

Ukrainian tennis player Martha Kostyuk (No. 36 WTA) got off to an unexpectedly successful start at the Wimbledon singles tournament.

In the first round, the Ukrainian defeated the Greek Maria Sakkari (#8 WTA), achieving the highest-rated victory in her career.

Note that the match was interrupted twice by rain, but resumed after a short break. In the second match, with a score of 3:3, Kostyuk easily took his serve by giving the second timeout in the set. However, it was not possible to apply to the party for the first time. The set ended only at 7:5 in favor of the Ukrainian.

In the final match, Marta took the opponent’s serve very quickly, after which Sakkari became increasingly nervous and made mistakes in simple situations, the forehand absolutely disobeying her. Martha managed to maintain her fighting spirit until the end of the match and led the match to victory.

It was the third match of the tennis players, the Ukrainian won for the first time.

Kostyuk played the 15th game of his career against an opponent in the top ten in the world rankings and won for the first time.

This is Martha’s third appearance in the second round of Wimbledon, she hasn’t gone further yet.

In the next round, the winner of the meeting will face Alison Risk (WTA No. 141) or Paula Badosa (WTA No. 35).
