Stefanos Tsitsipas improved dramatically on the second day of his rain-interrupted match against Dominic Thiem and qualified for the second round of Wimbledon with a 3-2 set in the tiebreak, where he meets Andy Murray.

A rain brought down the pairing of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Dominic Thiem and on the second day of the premiere match in Wimbledon there was only one protagonist. The Greek champion prevailed against his Austrian opponent 6:3, 6:7 (1), 2:6, 7:6 (5), 6:7 (8) and advanced to the second round of the tournament, where he meets Andy Murray.

The 1st set ended with Tim dominating, who managed two breaks and made it to 6:3 relatively effortlessly. The game was even in the second set, but the rain that had caused a five-minute stoppage in the first set came back stronger and led to the final stoppage.

A day later, when Tsitsipas was 4-3 games ahead, the game started again. Tsitsipas seemed more enthusiastic than the day before, his opponent more anxious. All of this was reflected in the tiebreak, in which the world No. 5 beat No. 90 7-1, in which Thiem lost and was able to equalize the sets.

The 3rd movement was a monologue by the Greek master and lasted 38 minutes. About 15 of them were dedicated to the third game, in which Tsitsipas led 40-0, twice had an advantage in the sequel, but ended up with the Austrian. It was his last flash, since then Tsitsipas managed two breaks and took the set.

The momentum was with the 24-year-old superstar. Tim, who was struggling in his service games, was able to improve in the 4th set, in which he had his back against the wall. Neither of the two opponents reached the limit for a break, so the tie-break brought the solution again. This time Tim appeared on the court who managed to win the set and end the game to equalize 2-2.

In the 5th and last set, neither of them dared to score points when the opponent served. Thiem needed four love games, Tsitsipas three and the match ended in a tie-break again. Both broke the other’s serve once and a mistake by Thiem led Tsitsipas to a second match point. He didn’t succeed, but responded immediately with a break and won the match of the two…days.
