“Andreeva is progressing from tournament to tournament, but so far she has semi-childish tennis” – Dmitrieva

Multiple champion of the USSR Anna Dmitrieva believes that the 16-year-old Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva will not be able to surpass the achievement of compatriot Maria Sharapova at Wimbledon.

In 2004, Sharapova at the age of 17 became the winner of the tournament in London, beating American Serena Williams in the final.

“I look forward to even greater success for Andreeva next year. Will she be able to repeat Sharapova’s success at Wimbledon 2024 in this case? She, of course, goes by leaps and bounds. Even in these six months, she has greatly added. In the future, we will get an extra-class player.

So far, she has half-children half-adult tennis. Sharapova managed to fly this period unnoticed. I think she will need more time, although she is progressing from tournament to tournament. Playing on grass for the first time, it shows very uncomfortable tennis for experienced players. Not everyone can handle her style of play.

Will Potapova be able to cope? A very interesting match awaits us. Usually Nastya was the youngest, and now Mirra (laughs). I don’t know how she will act. Potapova won the junior Wimbledon and then disappeared for a couple of years, stopped in development. She changed her coach and has been making progress in her game for the last year,” Dmitrieva told Legalbet.

In the match of the third round Andreeva on Saturday, July 8, will meet with compatriot Anastasia Potapova.
