Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina reached the second round of the Grand Slam tournament in Australia.

At the start of the competition, the fifth racket of the world beat Slovenian Kaja Juvan, who finished in the top 100 in the world rankings. The meeting lasted 1 hour 12 minutes and ended with a score of 6:4, 6:3 in favor of Rybakina.

Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova and American Venus Williams failed to reach the second round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

In the first round match, Alexandrova and Williams lost to the duo Emilian Arango/Elsa Jacquemot (Colombia/France) with a score of 6:7 (3:7), 4:6. The meeting lasted 1 hour 29 minutes.

The next rivals of Arango and Jacquemot will be the winners of the meeting McCartney Kessler/Jessica Pegula (both USA) – Gabriela Dabrowski/Louise Stefani (Canada/Italy, 5).

Earlier, Alexandrova and Williams also completed their performance in singles.

Former Aus Open number one takes first win after two surgeries

33-year-old former world No. 1 and Czech tennis player Carolina Pliskova (WTA1057) has made a successful start to the 2026 Australian Open.

In the first round, the Czech defeated the 32-year-old American in two sets. Sloane Stephens (WTA 1102) in 1 hour 35 minutes.

Australian Open 2026. 1/64 finals

Carolina Pliskova (Czech Republic) – Slovan Stevens (USA) [Q] – 7:6 (9:7), 6:2

This was the eighth head-to-head meeting between the rivals. Carolina beat Sloane for the second time.

Pliskova earned her first victory at the Tour level since the 2024 US Open. Since then Caroline has had two ankle surgeries.

Stevens started the Australian Open with qualification. In the election, the American defeated Barbora Palicova, Olivia Gabeki and Lucia Bronzetti.

Pliskova will compete with Indonesian representative Janice Tjen, who knocked out 22nd seed Leila Fernandez, in the second round of the majors.
