Soviet and Russian tennis player and tennis coach Viktor Yanchuk said that the performance of Russian tennis player Andrey Rublev at Wimbledon 2023 corresponds to his place in the ATP rankings.
Rublev previously won in the fourth round match of Wimbledon against the representative of Kazakhstan Alexander Bublik. The meeting ended with the victory of the Russian with a score of 7:5, 6:3, 6:7 (6:8), 6:7 (5:7), 6:4.
– To be honest, I’m not at all surprised by Rublev’s performance at Wimbledon. Why be surprised? Andrei is the seventh racket of the world – he simply has to play in the quarterfinals of all Grand Slams. His rating matches this.
Beating Bublik in five sets is not an achievement at all. Usual and desirable result. Such rivals need to be beaten in four, and preferably in three sets. I think that character played a decisive role in this match,” Yanchuk said to the “Championship”.
Rublev’s next opponent will be the winner of the match between Serb Novak Djokovic and Pole Hubert Hurkach.
