Wimbledon: Medvedev upsets Eubanks and reaches semifinals
Chris Eubanks almost clinched another big win but Daniil Medvedev managed to make it to the Wimbledon semi-finals with a 3-2 set.
Daniil Medvedev reached the semifinals of Wimbledon after a great fight with Chris Eubanks. The American took a 2-1 lead, but the Russian managed to turn things around and secured qualification with a 3-2 set.
The first set ended in control for Medvedev. The Russian broke quickly and then held for a 6-4 win.
In the next two sets, however, it was Eubanks who quickly managed to break his opponent’s serve. In fact, he gave up just one game in the second set against Medvedev, who seemed to have lost his mind, while a break was enough in the third set.
Somehow, Eubanks took the lead by winning the second and third sets 6-1, 6-4. Medvedev had his back to the wall in the fourth set.
Contrary to what we saw in the previous three sets, there was no break and both athletes went into a tie break. Medvedev was cooler there and won 7:6 (4), so the qualification went into the fifth set.
The Russian completely dominated against the seemingly empty US-American and secured his place in the semi-finals 6:1.
