Safiullin lacked confidence in himself a little in the match with Sinner, Olkhovsky believes

Russian tennis player Roman Safiullin matched the level of Italian Yannick Sinner in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, but he lacked self-confidence, Andrey Olkhovsky, winner of two Grand Slam tournaments in mixed doubles, told RB Sport.

On Tuesday, Safiullin lost to Sinner in four sets – 4:6, 6:3, 2:6, 2:6.

– First of all, I want to note the very successful performance of Roman in this tournament. And in this match, in my opinion, he lacked a little faith in his own strength. In the first two sets, Safiullin corresponded to the level of the same Sinner, there was no feeling that these were players of a different class. But there are moments when a player has already achieved something, the result is already great, and it is difficult at such a moment to squeeze even more out of yourself in order to go further.

But these moments are passing. With such a game, Roman has every chance to successfully spend the second half of the season and further improve his place in the rankings,” Olkhovsky said.

Safiullin, ranked 92nd in the ATP rankings, showed his best result at the Grand Slam tournaments. According to the results of the tournament, the 25-year-old Russian will become the 43rd racket of the world.
