Yanchuk told how Medvedev managed to defeat Eubanks at Wimbledon

Russian tennis coach Viktor Yanchuk commented on Daniil Medvedev’s entry into the Wimbledon semi-finals, noting that the Russian turned the tide of the match with American Christopher Eubanks due to his character.
Medvedev beat Eubanks in five games to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals for the first time. Prior to this draw, the best result of the 27-year-old Russian in the tournament was the fourth round in 2021.
– Medvedev is getting better and better at mastering the grass. Grass is not the best for him, so you have to give all the best every time. Medvedev’s skill is superior to that of Eubanks. But on the grass there is no way to run and play on the bounced ball on the back line.
The American was not known until Wimbledon. This complicated the task for Medvedev. Because in this case, you have to pick up the keys during the match. But Daniel did a good job with this task. It was not so much skill that played as Medvedev’s character. He does not give away balls for nothing and always plays to the end. When it seemed that the victory of Eubanks was close, Medvedev turned on and seized the initiative, – quotes Yanchuk “Championship”.

Alexandrova and Venus Williams failed to reach the second round of the Australian Open in doubles
Russian tennis player Ekaterina Alexandrova and American Venus Williams failed to reach the second round of the Australian Open in Melbourne.
In the first round match, Alexandrova and Williams lost to the duo Emilian Arango/Elsa Jacquemot (Colombia/France) with a score of 6:7 (3:7), 4:6. The meeting lasted 1 hour 29 minutes.
The next rivals of Arango and Jacquemot will be the winners of the meeting McCartney Kessler/Jessica Pegula (both USA) – Gabriela Dabrowski/Louise Stefani (Canada/Italy, 5).

33-year-old former world No. 1 and Czech tennis player Carolina Pliskova (WTA1057) has made a successful start to the 2026 Australian Open.
In the first round, the Czech defeated the 32-year-old American in two sets. Sloane Stephens (WTA 1102) in 1 hour 35 minutes.

Pliskova will compete with Indonesian representative Janice Tjen, who knocked out 22nd seed Leila Fernandez, in the second round of the majors.
