Czech tennis player Marketa Vondrousova became the first married women’s singles champion at Wimbledon since 1981.

42 years ago, American Chris Evert won the tournament for the third time in his career (1974, 1976, 1981). She married British tennis player John Lloyd in 1979 and became Christina Evert-Lloyd. In 1987, the couple broke up.

Marketa Vondrousova got married a year ago. On Sunday, July 16, she and her husband will celebrate their first wedding anniversary. The tennis player from the Czech Republic mentioned this in his speech after the award.

Additionally, Vondrousova became the first unseeded Wimbledon winner in the Open Era that started in 1968. Marketa started the tournament ranked 42nd in the world rankings. Previously, she has not yet risen above the 13th rank.
