Soviet and Russian tennis player, winner of two Grand Slam tournaments in mixed doubles Andrei Olkhovsky considers participation in the Wimbledon semi-finals a good result for Russian Daniil Medvedev.
Medvedev lost in the semi-finals to the first racket of the world Spaniard Carlos Alcaras with a score of 3:6, 3:6, 3:6.
– First of all, we must pay tribute to the result of Medvedev in the tournament. I think the semi-final at Wimbledon is a great achievement. He reached this mark for the first time in his career, which says a lot. The reasons for the defeat from Alcaraz are clear: Medvedev plays too passively on the grass. Alcaraz is very comfortable with this kind of tennis, he was able to use all his best qualities. The struggle in the first and second sets was before the break on Dani’s serve. In the third, he tried to catch on and took several innings of the Spaniard, but immediately gave several games in a row on his own. With such a game, reaching the semi-finals on grass is a great outcome! If he wants to progress on this surface, then he needs to change his style of play a little, – Olkhovsky told the Championship.
Alcaraz will play in the Wimbledon final for the first time in his career. Rival 20-year-old tennis player will be Serb Novak Djokovic (2nd seeded).
