Novak Djokovic: “Without a doubt, Alcaras deservedly won”
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic talked about the main mistakes he played against Spaniard Carlos Alcaras in the final match of the Wimbledon tournament.
“Are you more upset about the tie-break or the break in the fifth set? About tie-break. To be honest, the backhand disappointed me. At the set point, I missed the backhand when I shouldn’t have. Then at 6:6, another backhand came from the middle of the court to the nets. Two very weak backstabs, that’s all – the match was turned upside down. He added a lot in the third set and I couldn’t recover for a long time.
In the middle of the fourth set I was able to regroup and regain the initiative – that was my chance. I think I played well at the timeout, but today it was very windy and the wind took the ball to a place where I couldn’t shoot – I had to drive the wall in the fall. I clearly saw him running to the opposite corner, I wanted to take him by surprise, but I didn’t hit him. He took a break in the next match and then defended his field until the end.
There are regrets. I had luck. I could have played a better tie-break – but you have to give him credit, he struggled and showed incredible defensive skills and dribbling shots that gave him a break in the fifth set. Without a doubt, he deservedly won today, ”admitted Djokovic.
