Polish border guards did not let a Russian woman into the country to participate in a tennis tournament

Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva was not allowed into Poland to participate in the WTA tournament, according to the official website of the country’s government.

— The Border Guard has prevented the entry into Poland of the Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva. Using a visa issued by France, the athlete flew from Belgrade to Warsaw and tried to enter our country. Upon arrival from Serbia, the tennis player was in the transit zone of the Warsaw airport and today, after 12:00, she flew to Podgorica.

The Russian woman, who is on the list of persons whose stay on the territory of Poland is undesirable, was not allowed to pass by the border guard for reasons of state and public security, the statement says.

The WTA tournament will take place from 24 to 30 July in Poland. Zvonareva is 38 years old and has 12 personal WTA titles to her credit.
