Vera Zvonareva was considered a threat to state security.
This week in world sports is marked by Polish madness. Local authorities are doing everything to harm Russian athletes, and do not give a damn about the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Much turns against the provocateurs themselves, but the scandals still do not stop.
This time, the border guards at the Warsaw airport humiliated the Russian tennis player. Vera was seen as a threat to national security!
The Poles were punished, but they don’t care
In September 2022, Poland introduced an absolutely draconian ban on Russians from entering the country. According to the new rules, our compatriots cannot even make transplants in the country. This has already burned the Russian tennis player Vitalia Dyachenko, flying from Cairo to Nice just through Warsaw. The girl was not allowed to board the plane even at the Egyptian airport, refusing to register.
Recently, the organizers of the Challenger tennis tournament in the city of Grodzisk-Mazowiecki urged Russians and Belarusians not to apply for participation in the competition. Formally, this is a gross violation of the requirements of the ATP and WTA, which prohibit discrimination based on nationality. Even Wimbledon followed the rules of international sports organizations this year, but the Poles have their own way of looking at things.
Poland is already really flying for Russophobia. The fencing tournament at the European Games in the country was deprived of the status of the European Championship precisely because of the non-admission of our athletes. The head of the IOC, Thomas Bach, then harshly criticized the actions of local authorities and called them discrimination. And just the day before, Poland was deprived of the right to host the World Youth Wrestling Championship (under 20) due to the failure to issue visas to participants. It is easy to guess which countries the participants are from.
The tournament in Warsaw is doomed to scandals
Next week, the major tennis tournament WTA 250 starts in Warsaw, where Russian tennis players should also come. However, at least one of our girls did not reach the capital of Poland, although she visited the local airport. We are talking about the Olympic medalist, ex-second racket of the world, Wimbledon and US Open finalist Vera Zvonareva. The honored Russian woman had to face the inadequacy and cynicism of the Polish border guards.
— The Border Guard has prevented the entry into Poland of the Russian tennis player Vera Zvonareva. Using a visa issued by France, the athlete flew from Belgrade to Warsaw and tried to enter our country. Upon arrival from Serbia, the tennis player was in the transit zone of the Warsaw airport and today, after 12:00, she flew to Podgorica. The Russian woman, who is on the list of persons whose stay on the territory of Poland is undesirable, was not allowed to pass by the border service for reasons of state and public security, the message on the official website of the country’s government says.
What exactly threatens Poland with the stay of a 38-year-old athlete on its territory, of course, is not reported. However, now the main question is the possibility of repeating the incident with other tennis players. The Minister of Sports of the country Kamil Bortnichuk has already stated that he intends to boycott all matches of the tournament, in which Russians and Belarusians will take part. The official is ready to miss even the final with the participation of the Polish and world tennis star Iga Sventek, if she has to play with a rival from Russia.
The Russian sports community has already spoken about the scandal with Zvonareva. European volleyball champion Alexei Spiridonov, famous for his sharp comments, did not spare the Poles.
– It is long time to forget about this nation and country, for me the Poles do not exist for many years. These are pure Russophobes, scum of scum. It is impossible to find a more vile people than the Poles. This is what we see in the way they treat our athletes. And not only to athletes,” Spiridonov told Match TV.
When it seems that there is nowhere to fall further, the Poles break through the next bottom. There is a feeling that sport for this country no longer exists – there is only a blood feud with Russia.
