Mirra Andreeva is already being compared to Maria Sharapova. The Russian woman is the discovery of the year in women’s tennis. This time, the 16-year-old athlete flashed at the WTA 250 category tournament in Lausanne, where she faced Ukrainian rival Dayana Yastremska in the first round match. The tournament in Switzerland with a prize fund of almost 260 thousand dollars started on July 24, and its winner will be determined by the end of the week. In the first game, after 40:0, Mirra allowed the Ukrainian to level the score on her serve. Only after the mistake of Dayana, who took the ball into the net, could we relax a bit: it worked out.
The Ukrainian was close to taking her first serve, but lost in a bitter struggle, and again because of her own mistake. In almost every game of the starting set, the winner was determined in the end, but the scoreboard eventually recorded the unconditional victory of the Russian athlete – 6:0. Mirra acted better in attack and at the reception, but it was too early to relax.
The first two games of the second set did not bring anything new: the Ukrainian continued to cling to every draw, but invariably lost at the decisive moment. However, this could not continue indefinitely: Dayana still took two games. Mirra, however, was not deterred.
Clever and varied game, as well as excellent blows right through, allowed Andreeva to become the winner in one hour and four minutes after the start of the match. The loser traditionally refused to shake hands with the Russian woman, but Mirra doesn’t have time to think about it. In the second round, Anna Bondar from Hungary will become her rival.
