(Toronto) Alejandro Davidovich Fokina reached the semi-finals of the National Bank Open following a 6-4, 6-2 win over American Mackenzie McDonald on Friday in Toronto.

The Spaniard showed opportunism by converting five of the nine break points he got. He ended the game on his third match point.

McDonald was in the quarter-finals of a Masters 1000 for the first time in his career. He defeated local favorite Milos Raonic on Thursday.

In the next round, Davidovich Fokina will play against the winner of the duel between second seed Daniil Medvedev and Australian Alex de Minaur.

In the other portion of the table, the favorite Carlos Alcaraz faces the American and 12e seeded Tommy Paul, while Italian Jannik Sinner, No. 7, has an appointment with Frenchman Gaël Monfils.
