Alex de Minaur took advantage of a very poor outing by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina on Saturday afternoon to advance to the National Bank Open final.
The Australian will be in his first career Masters 1000 final, thanks to this win in two sets of 6-1 and 6-3.
Although he settled the first set in 30 minutes, de Minaur was not beyond reproach. In the second set, he was broken several times, in addition to looking helpless on some routine strikes.
Nothing to do, however, with the quality of his opponent’s game. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina had his worst game of the tournament at the worst time.
