Among the five best players in the world, starting with the trio Carlos Alcaraz-Novak Djokovic-Daniil Medvedev, only the Dane Holger Rune has experienced an evolution: he is now 5e (+1) thanks to the slide of the Norwegian Casper Ruud (7e-2).
Between the two Scandinavians comes Jannik Sinner who, at 21, won the main title of his young career on Sunday – the 8e in total-, at the Masters 1000 in Toronto.
His opponent in the final, the Australian Alex de Minaur, also made a good move in the standings, since he is now 12e (+6), but it is now the top 5 that the Italian has in his sights. 5eRune, is only 65 points ahead of him, and the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas (4e) to less than 400.
Lower down, the Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime, eliminated very early last week in front of his audience by the modest Australian Max Purcell, continues to unscrew (14e-2).
In Toronto, on the other hand, the public was enthusiastic about the return to grace of the spectacular French player, Gaël Monfils, 36 years old. The former world number six, missing from the circuit for more than a year and facing a multitude of injuries, confirmed his return by reaching the quarter-finals after having notably released Tsitsipas.
Monfils, who only lost to eventual winner Jannik Sinner, is still very low in the standings (211e) but his gain of 65 places fuels hopes for the rest of the North American tour, in Cincinnati and then at the US Open.
