Iga Swiatek
In the last set, Gauff made the break to lead 4 games to 3 then 5 to 3 on his service by multiplying the high balls to hinder his opponent. The American, however, was nervous until the end with in particular a double fault when she served to win the match but finally prevailed on an unforced error from the Pole.
“I knew it would be hard to beat her. I really took my chances when I could and I fought on every point,” said the young American after her victory.
It’s the second time in a week that Swiatek, 22, has lost in the semifinals with a loss to another American, Jessica Pegula, in Montreal.
Gauff, 19 and currently 5e world player, she won her first match against the world N.1 in eight games.
In the other semi-final, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, 2e world, won 1er set in the tiebreaker (7/4) against the Czech Karolína Muchová (17e). However, she had won four games in a row to come back to 5-5 before losing her service in turn.

Karolina Muchova
In the 2e set, Sabalenka lost her luster and against an opponent who had already beaten her in the semi-finals at Roland-Garros this season, she committed two consecutive double faults in the 6e game while leading 40-0. Muchová then broke to break away 5-3 and serve to win the set. What she did without firing a shot, forcing Belarus to a 3e set.
Muchova broke there to lead 2-1 against a very irregular Sabalenka, alternating aces and double faults. The Czech took the opportunity to take the lead 5-3 by once again breaking her opponent.
With her victory, acquired on an unforced error by Sabalenka, she offers herself the first final of her career in a WTA 1000 and makes sure to enter the Top 10 of the world rankings on Monday.
