Former world No. 1 in women’s singles Simona Halep has been excluded from the US Open 2023 list due to a doping scandal, the Daily Mail reported.

The 31-year-old Romanian tennis player has been banned from competition since October last year. She is accused of using the prohibited substance roxadust and violations when filling out a biological passport.

Nevertheless, Halep was present in the application list of the main draw of the US Open, which will be held from August 28 to September 10. On Monday, the organizers announced that the 25-time winner of the WTA tournaments was excluded from the list of participants.

Halep vehemently denies knowingly taking the illegal drug and claims she has evidence that the substance entered her system from a contaminated licensed supplement.
