Coco Goff criticizes US Open referee
19-year-old Coco Goff reacted harshly to the referees during her first-round match with German Laura Siegemund at the US Open.
He won the world’s sixth racket in three sets (3:6, 6:2, 6:4). Siegemund was shown two yellow cards for slow play. Goff was unhappy that the referee of the match could not enforce his opponent’s rules.
“I felt the rules were being broken. That’s why a lot of players get angry when a time violation is played, because one referee lets them go while the other keeps the time tighter. Whatever the case, I think tennis needs to be stricter about the rules for everyone. I do my best not to let my emotions get over me. I did my best.
It was a tough match, I couldn’t play the best tennis. Laura is a tough opponent. He fights to the end, and he did it today. I have managed to overcome many challenges, so I am happy with the way I have overcome them,” said Goff.
