Andreeva seemed to dissolve on the New York court, unable to withstand the pressure from Gauff. The American calmly used other people’s mistakes and took the second game with a score of 6:2. The whole match took her less than an hour and a half.
Unfortunately, the three-set fight that the audience could see at Roland Garros did not work out. Mirra was knocked out of her third Grand Slam tournament in the second round – the worst result in her short career so far.
The main thing is experience and love
But even not the brightest game impressed the American audience. The Russian woman was escorted from the courts with a standing ovation. Mirra herself, leaving for the room under the stands, wiped her eyes with a towel – it was difficult to understand whether she was crying or just removing sweat. Maybe she was surprised by the support of the stands?
Corey Gauff after the match also treated Andreeva with respect. In an interview, she supported her rival and asked not to write her off.
Mirra has a great future. I, too, have been in this position before. I hope you guys continue to support her. She will perform here many more times,” Gauff said on the court after the match.
