Vice President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) Alexei Selivanenko admitted that the defeat of Russian Roman Safiullin from American Tommy Paul in the second round of the US Open was not a surprise to him.

Safiullin lost to Paul on Wednesday with a score of 6:3, 6:2, 2:6, 4:6, 3:6.

– Roman this season at Wimbledon has already shown that he can go far in big tournaments. In the game of the second round, Safiullin was unable to consolidate the advantage in the first two sets and keep the score. Paul seized the initiative in the third set and then turned the match in his favor. This often happens in tennis,” Selivanenko told RB Sport.

Paul’s next opponent (14th seed) will be Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich‑Fokina (21).
