1995 Davis Cup finalist Andrei Chesnokov said that Russian Andrei Rublev defeated Frenchman Gael Monfils in the second round match of the US Open Tennis Championship with a clear advantage.

Rublev won in four sets – 6:4, 6:3, 3:6, 6:1.

– I did not think that Rublev would play so well. He literally tore Monfils on the court. From the very beginning, Rublev played very sharply. When Monfils makes constant acceleration, then there is fatigue. The Frenchman could hardly keep up with the pace that Rublev imposed on him.

It’s hard to keep concentration three sets in a row. In the third game, Rublev made several mistakes at an important moment, which cost him a set. But then he calmed down, began to play well and brought the matter to victory.

As far as I understand, this may be the last US Open for Monfils. He did a performance on the court, the audience was delighted, – Chesnokov told RB Sport.

Rublev’s next opponent at the US Open will be Arthur Rinderknech of France.
