Soviet and Russian tennis player Andrei Chesnokov shared his impressions of the quarterfinals of the US Open between Russians Daniil Medvedev and Andrei Rublev, noting that both athletes should be given a monument for their quality play in difficult conditions.
On Thursday night, Medvedev defeated Rublev in the quarterfinals of the US Open with a score of 6:4, 6:3, 6:4.
I didn’t expect so many breaks. But if we take the level of the match as a whole, then the speeds were cosmic. Although such a score, but the level of tennis was simply phenomenal. Medvedev and Rublev carried out long draws, after which they actually died. You think: where do they get so much physical strength? It was like being in a capsule in this hall – it was impossible not only to play tennis, it was unrealistic to sit there: people were sitting, waving their fans.
Medvedev served well. How Danya got Rublev’s sharp balls is amazing. The last game was over 15 minutes. Rublev simply had no strength at the last blow. He won back those match points at such a limit … They were dying, but they still played. For the conditions in which the guys played, they need to erect a monument, – quotes the words of Chesnokov “Championship”.
In the semi-finals, Medvedev will play with the world No. 1 Spaniard Carlos Alcaras.
