Russian tennis player Andrei Rublev lacked self-confidence in the quarterfinals of the US Open against compatriot Daniil Medvedev, honored coach of Russia Viktor Yanchuk believes.

On Thursday night, Medvedev defeated Rublev in the quarterfinals of the US Open with a score of 6:4, 6:3, 6:4.

– I think that the match was a foregone conclusion in the first set, which modeled for us the subsequent outcome of the confrontation. Daniel was much more confident than Andrei. In the first set, he calmly won back the lost game on his serve and took the game on Rublev’s serve no less confidently. It was a clear message to Andrei that Medvedev would not give in and that only victory would suit him.

Speaking about Andrey, I believe that he was not able to fully show all his best qualities in this match. He had better games. He showed himself only in episodes of the match, which, of course, is not enough to win. To some extent, Andrey was let down by his psychology, he lacked calmness and self-confidence. This was especially evident at the end of the match. Andrei frankly dropped his hands and wanted to finish the match as soon as possible, – said Yanchuk RT.

Medvedev’s next opponent will be the world’s No. 1 Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the meeting will be held on Friday.
