Vikhlyantseva does not believe that Medvedev will make it to the US Open final

Russian tennis player Natalya Vikhlyantseva assessed the chances of compatriot Daniil Medvedev to reach the final of the US Open.

World number three Medvedev will play against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the semi-finals of the US Open.

– Of course, I want to believe that Medvedev is able to beat Alcaraz and reach the US Open final, and then beat Novak Djokovic. After the final in Cincinnati, when there was a simply mind-blowing three-set match, now everyone is waiting for Alcaraz and Djokovic to play in the final. Before the tournament started, everyone was already preparing popcorn, gathering friends and waiting for Sunday to watch just such a final.

Now Medvedev is in good shape, he beat Andrei Rublev in a very difficult game and in very hot weather. For some reason, it seems to me that the final will be Alcaraz – Djokovic, but we will, of course, root for Daniil,” Vikhlyantseva told Metaratings.ru.

Alcaraz and Medvedev have played each other three times, two of them in 2023. In March, the Spaniard won the Masters final in Indian Wells with a score of 2–0; in July, in the semifinals of Wimbledon, he again won with a clean sheet – 3–0. At Wimbledon 2021, Medvedev was stronger than Alcaraz in three games.
