Medvedev dethroned Alkarath and reached the US Open final

Daniil Medvedev put in a great performance, defeating Carlos Alcarath 3-1 and advancing to the US Open final, where he will face Novak Djokovic.

A delightful Daniil Medvedev managed a 3-1 set win over Carlos Alcarath and moved into the final of the US Open, where he will face Novak Djokovic on Sunday evening (September 10th, 11 p.m., Eurosport1).

So there will be a repeat of the 2021 final, when the Russian won 3-0 sets against Djokovic and won his first and so far only Grand Slam title.


To get there, however, Novak Djokovic needed another great performance against Carlos Alcarath, who seemed out of form in many parts of the match.

The match: The details were decided in the first sentence. The 20-year-old Spaniard was the first to reach break point, but Medvedev was able to hold serve to make it 2-2.

Finally, the two tennis players managed to hold their serve until the final and it went into a tiebreak. The Russian was cooler there, he took advantage of Alkarath’s annoyance and increased the score to 7:6 (3) to 1:0.


The second set was easy for Daniil Medvedev, who won it, leaving just one game to Carlos Alcarath, who was clearly out of rhythm, as the Russian won the 2-0 set 6-1.


In the third set, the 20-year-old Spaniard found the break he was looking for in the fifth game and managed to take a 4-1 lead and then finish the set 6-3 to move to 2-1 sets shorten.


Alkarath tried to change the momentum of the game, but at the two crucial points of the set, Daniil Medvedev managed to emerge victorious.


He first erased a triple break point from the Spaniard and then broke out to close the set and the game 6-3.
