Zvonareva lost in the final of the US Open 2023 paired with German Siegemund

Russia’s Vera Zvonareva and Germany’s Laura Siegemund lost to New Zealand’s Erin Routliffe and Canada’s Gabriela Dabrowski in the US Open doubles final.

Zvonareva and Siegemund were defeated in the decisive match with a score of 6:7 (9:11), 3:6. The meeting lasted 2 hours 11 minutes. In the middle of the second set, after the score was 0:3, the German took a medical timeout due to problems with her lower back.

Routliffe and Dabrowski won their first Grand Slam title in doubles.

Zvonareva made her debut on the WTA tour in 2000. The 39-year-old tennis player played in the final of a Grand Slam tournament in doubles for the fifth time in her career and for the second time in a duet with Siegemund. In 2020, a Russian and a German won the title at the US Open. Zvonareva also won the US Open in 2004 in mixed doubles and in 2006 in duet, and in 2012 she became the best at the Australian Open together with compatriot Svetlana Kuznetsova. In 2010, together with Elena Vesnina, she lost in the Wimbledon final.
