Novak Djokovic: “I didn’t think it would happen”
Serbian Novak Djokovic He won the 24th Grandslam title of his career. He defeated tennis player Daniil Medvedev in three sets in the 2023 US Open final.
Djokovic updated the record for the most Grandslam titles (24) in men, making him two titles ahead of Spanish Rafael Nadal and four titles ahead of Swiss Roger Federer. In addition, Djokovic repeated the absolute record of Australian Margaret Court, who won 24 Grand Slam tournaments among women.
“Writing the history of tennis is an important and special thing. “Special” in every sense of the word. It is very difficult to explain this in words. When I was 7-8 years old, I dreamed of being the best player in the world and winning Wimbledon. That’s all I want. When I did this, I started setting new goals. I never thought I’d stop and talk about 24 Grendslam. I didn’t think this would become a reality. But in the last few years, I felt like I had a chance to make history,” Novak said.
This is Novak’s fourth victory at the US Open. The Serb has won the Australian Open ten times, Wimbledon seven times and Roland Garros three times. Even after the opening round, Djokovic was guaranteed to return to first place in the world rankings. The Serbian athlete holds the record for the number of weeks in the status of the world’s first racket (389 days).
