(Paris) The day after his victory at the United States Open, which gave him a record 24 Grand Slam titles, Novak Djokovic set another record by returning to the top of the ATP rankings on Monday, which he holds for 390e week of his career.

The most spectacular progression of top 50 is the work of surprising Flushing Meadows semi-finalist Ben Shelton. The 20-year-old American, eliminated by Djokovic, enters the top 20 jumping from the 47e at 19e place, a gain of 28 positions.

The 36-year-old Serbian therefore takes the number one place from the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the other semi-finalist from New York, defeated by the Russian Daniil Medvedev. “Djoko” will thus pass his 390e week – the equivalent of seven and a half years – at the top of the world hierarchy, thus improving his own record.

Alcaraz is second, and Medvedev – beaten 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 in the final – consolidates his third place in the ranking, increasing his lead over his pursuer, the Dane Holger Rune.

Behind the leading quartet, the United States Open upset a few positions at the top of the rankings: the Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas gained two places and now occupies fifth position ahead of the Russian Andrey Rublev (also +2 places).

The Italian Jannik Sinner, however, falls back to 7e rank (-1), and the Norwegian Casper Ruud falls from 5e at 9e rank.

The German Alexander Zverev, who was 12ere-enters the top 10 in 10e position, from which he ejects the American Frances Tiafoe, who falls back a notch.

Swiss hopeful Dominic Stricker, 21, made the biggest progress in the top 100. He achieved the best ranking of his career at 90e rank, with a gain of 38 places.
