Soviet and Russian tennis player and coach Viktor Yanchuk shared his impressions of the final match of the US Open 2023, in which Serbian Novak Djokovic beat Russian Daniil Medvedev.
The decisive match of the tournament ended with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:5), 6:3 in favor of Djokovic. This is the 36-year-old Serb’s 24th Grand Slam title.
“It’s clear that Djokovic is not only a gifted player, but he also thinks through his preparation for the match. He picked up the keys, the correct manner of play, drawing conclusions from past defeats to Medvedev. Djokovic methodically, consistently and deliberately imposed his game on his opponent, attacking selectively after good preparation. This tactic brought success.
If Medvedev had managed to win the tiebreaker, the course of the match would have been different. Djokovic’s playing style turned out to be inconvenient for Daniil. Novak did not suppress Medvedev, but kept the game even and selectively prepared finishing blows. Skill shows. That’s why he is the leader of world tennis, he won his 24th victory at the Grand Slam tournaments,” Yanchuk is quoted as saying by “Championship.”
