Honored Russian tennis coach Vladimir Kamelzon said that the outcome of the 2023 US Open final was predetermined by Daniil Medvedev’s defeat by Novak Djokovic in a tiebreaker in the second set.
The decisive match of the tournament in the USA ended with a score of 6:3, 7:6 (7:5), 6:3 in favor of Djokovic. For the 36-year-old Serb, this title was the 24th at Grand Slam tournaments.
– I believe that Medvedev simply failed to enter this match. He went through the entire tournament with flying colors, but he didn’t have the right start against Djokovic. I don’t think that fatigue after the fight with Alcaraz is to blame. Novak is now the personification of tennis, and Daniil’s performance in the first set is a consequence of the opponent’s actions. And only then there was some anxiety associated with an unsuccessful start. In the second set we saw an equal fight, but the fate of the match was essentially decided in the tiebreaker.
Dana should have been more calm. In addition, Novak skillfully used his developed artistry to lull his vigilance. This is a man of big finals, he knows how to get involved in them precisely at those moments when you need to achieve results. The Serb hides his drop shots well. And the way he interacts with the public and gets charged by it is another ace up his sleeve. Russian tennis players, including Medvedev, now lack this. Unfortunately, Djokovic was stronger. But Daniil does not stop progressing, he will still have major finals and victories in his career, RT quotes Kamelzon.
