Russian tennis player Anastasia Myskina compared the successes of Daniil Medvedev with the achievements of Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin.
On Sunday, the 27-year-old Russian lost to Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic in the final of the tournament in three sets – 3:6, 6:7 (5:7), 3:6. In the semi-finals, Medvedev defeated the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who at that time was the leader in the ATP rankings. According to the results of the US Open, Djokovic rose to first place, Medvedev is still in third place.
— Daniil lacked precision in the decisive moments of the second set, when he began to put pressure on Djokovic. We must give it credit, Novak played the match superbly, especially in the volleying component. The second set turned out to be key, it’s a pity that Medvedev missed it.
Medvedev has already surpassed Kafelnikov and Safin in the number of Grand Slam finals, but so far he has one title, while Evgeniy and Marat have two each. Therefore, in terms of titles, it is too early to put them on a par, but Daniil is getting close to them, and it may be a matter of time,” Metaratings.ru quotes Myskina as saying.
Medvedev is the winner of the 2021 US Open. The Russian defeated Djokovic in the final.
