OFFICIALLY. Former world number one disqualified until 2026
Romanian tennis star Simona Halep was banned for 4 years for using banned substances.
Last October, Halep was suspended pending an investigation after traces of the banned substance roxadustat were found in her body.
Halep made a decision today: 4 years disqualification. The 31-year-old Romanian woman’s ban period will be counted from the beginning of the provisional suspension and will end on October 6, 2026.
Halep is a former world number one and two-time Grand Slam winner (Roland Garros 2018 and Wimbledon 2019). She won a total of 24 WTA tournaments throughout her career.
