VIDEO. Wawrinka slams Pique over new Davis Cup format
Today, September 12, 2023, the group matches of the Davis Cup started. The national teams of Switzerland and France play in Manchester.
Switzerland national team star Stan Wawrinka posted a video on Twitter showing the almost empty stands at the match and blamed Gerard Pique for it:
“Thank you Gerard Pique and ITF! “This is the Davis Cup match between France and Switzerland in Manchester,” Wawrinka wrote.
Recall, in 2018, Pique, together with his investment group, promised to invest $3 billion in Davis Cup over 25 years. In response, Pique and his investors lobbied for a significant change in the tournament’s format.
