Novak Djokovic, in his statements about the adulation he received in Serbia, claimed that he had never experienced anything like it in his life and that he would remember it forever.

Novak Djokovic received an enthusiastic welcome in Serbia from thousands of people who took to the streets to greet both “Nole” after winning the US Open and the Serbian national team, which took second place at Mundo Basket 2023.

The Serbian tennis player, who could not hold back his tears during his appearance on the “balcony”, spoke about the moments he experienced and showed his emotions there too.

Djokovic said, among other things:

“The most emotional reception… It was the first time I experienced something like this because I was with my family and friends. I’ll probably never experience something like that. I was on stage with champions of another sport that I admire, respect and support and I share the stage with them, so I will remember that for the rest of my life. I don’t know, it’s one of the most beautiful moments of my life.

We are a nation that never gives in and never gives up. A few years ago I heard that Belgrade, which was destroyed 47 or 49 times, was being rebuilt. You feel that spirit in these young people who are here tonight and you feel their pride…

The greatest ambassadors of this country are athletes and it is an incredible privilege for us to represent Serbia wherever we are. I thank people for your love, your faith and your will. Glory be to God, long live Serbia.”
