Maria SAKKARI: “The attitude of doping control towards athletes is frightening”
Greek tennis player Maria Sakkari Romanian Simona talked about her attitude towards doping control after her story with Halep.
“I can say with certainty that the way they treat any athlete in any situation is frightening. We will soon reach the point where we cannot get electrolytes. Fortunately, I have never found myself in such situations and I do not want to get into this situation. I have always been very careful about anything related to nutritional supplements but I don’t know the procedure, I don’t know what happens behind closed doors. I don’t know who can talk, I don’t know at all.
I would improve the location functionality in the anti-doping app. It should remind you of the time window every day, but it doesn’t. They tried to improve it but it didn’t work. Compared to other athletes, we travel a lot and this creates a lot of stress. I wake up almost every night to go to the toilet. As my window of time approaches, I wonder if I should go or not. Wait, will they come or not? It’s just a lot of stress,” Sakkari said.
