Details of Sakkari’s loss to Navarro in the San Diego quarterfinals
Maria Sakkari (No. 9) lost to Emma Navarro (No. 61) with 2:1 sets (4:6, 6:0, 6:7) and said goodbye to the quarterfinals of the 500-man tournament in San Diego.
Maria Sakkari (No. 9) could not overcome the obstacle of Emma Navarro (No. 61). The leading Greek tennis player lost to the American 1:2 and was already eliminated from the 500 tournament in San Diego in the quarterfinals.
Sakkari started the set strongly and got the break, but Navarro had an answer by breaking Maria’s serve twice in a row. He managed to end the set with a 6:4 win.
The Greek tennis player went into the second set furiously and scored an absolute 6-0 with three breaks, leaving her opponent no room to react and taking the game into the third set.
There the two gymnasts went hand in hand, with the fight being decided in a tiebreak. Navarro won 7:4 and qualified for the quarterfinals.
