Tsitsipas: “Fatigue is no excuse, I am disappointed”

Stefanos Tsitsipas did not hide his disappointment with our national team’s defeat against Slovakia, but also with his personal performance.

Stefanos Tsitsipas was visibly disappointed by our national tennis team’s defeat against Slovakia in the Davis Cup and made no secret of it at the press conference.

First, the leading Greek tennis player explained: “The game definitely didn’t go well. During the game my serve was often not good and that was a disadvantage. It was very difficult to find solutions. They have all reacted very well in the last few days and we have increased the pressure. It was difficult to play with the wind, I’m sure it was the same for my opponent. Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about that.”

When asked afterwards about the many hours he spent on the pitch, he said: “I expected this to happen in back-to-back games. I knew it wouldn’t be easy. Slovakia is higher than us in the rankings and overall. I knew I had to play three games in two days, so fatigue wasn’t an issue.” Sorry. Mentally I was ready to play three games, I didn’t play the tennis I wanted to show my team and the world.

I’m disappointed because I came here because of the qualifications. Psychologically, the most important thing was to win the doubles because it would give me the impetus to put more energy into the singles. It’s not that I felt pressured, but in times like these it’s important to have a track to feel less pressure on you. We continue to hope for better games in the future.”

Finally, he was asked to award a title for the historic first time tennis was played in Kallimarmaro: “Tennis is glorified at one of Greece’s most historic sites”.
