Kichenok and Friedsam beat top seeds at WTA tournament in China
Ukraine’s third racket in doubles Nadezhda Kichenok and German tennis player Anna-Lena Friedsam She reached the semi-finals of the WTA 250 tournament held in Guangzhou, China.
In the quarterfinal match, Kichenok and Friedsam won over top-seeded American tennis players Sabrina Santamaria and Yana Senikova in two sets. Ukrainian and German athletes took the first set without any problems – they were ahead 1:4, then took another break with a score of 3:4 and closed the set with their serves. The second match was a little more difficult. With the score at 1:1, the duo took two breaks and for a while the initiative passed to Santamaria and Senikova. However, with a score of 5:5, Kichenok and Friedsam made a decisive attack and carried the match to victory with their serves.
In the semifinals, Nadezhda Kichenok and Anna-Lena Friedsam will play against local tennis players Guo Hanyu and Jiang Xinyu, who defeated fourth seeds Magda Linette and Mayuka Uchijima in two sets.
