Djokovic wants punters to share profits with players
Number one in the ATP rankings Novak Djokovic He demanded that tennis players be given a fair share of profits from deals with bookmakers.
According to reports, the ATP recently signed a six-year deal with Sportradar as its official gambling data partner. It has been revealed that the ATP will allow Sportradar to use and share player data with online bookmakers.
The Professional Tennis Players Association published a video on social media in which the Serbian player expressed his concerns about the inconsistency in the distribution of official betting profits. He argued that betting companies make a lot of money and share their profits with organizations in the tennis world:
“The bets are official. It happens, and bettors make hundreds of millions, perhaps even billions, of dollars from tennis. So there’s a lot of value in that. And many stakeholders in the tennis world benefit from this. But players are getting the short end of the stick and literally getting nothing, almost nothing,” Novak said.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion said the ATP avoided discussion when the issue was raised and questioned the player’s responsibility to maintain integrity in tennis. He continued:
“We’ve been on the ATP Player Council for almost a decade now, whenever we bring this up, honesty usually comes up in the discussion, right? For example, we need to fight to make sure our sport stays clean. They say we need to make sure players don’t cheat, don’t bet and don’t jeopardize tournaments. Of course they do that.” I support it but it’s a kind of psychological game. You will focus on that and not talk about the real problem that we as players need to be aware of,” Djokovic said.
It was previously known that Novak Djokovic would miss the Masters match in Shanghai.
