Two Ukrainian women will play in the main draw of the WTA 500 tournament to be held in Japan
Ukraine’s second and third rackets, Angelina Kalinina and Marta Kostyuk, will play on hard courts in the main draw of the WTA 500 tournament to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
Kalinina will play in the first round against American Ashlyn Kruger, whom she has not played with before. If the Ukrainian player wins in the second round, her opponent will be French Caroline Garcia, who is in fifth place. Kalinina had never played with him before either.
Kostyuk’s first opponent will be sixth seed Daria Kasatkina, whom the Ukrainian has previously defeated twice in three matches. They last met at a tournament in Birmingham in 2021. Then Kasatkina won in two sets. If Kostyuk wins, he will play against one of the qualifier winners in the second round.
The main rule matches of the WTA 500 tournament will be held in Tokyo from September 25 to October 1.
