Olympic tennis champion in doubles Elena Vesnina assessed the likelihood of Karen Khachanov’s victory in the final of the ATP tournament in Zhuhai, China.
The day before, the Russian athlete defeated the American Sebastian Korda in the semi-finals of the tournament in Zhuhai and today will play in the decisive match with the Japanese Yoshihito Nishioka. In early June, Khachanov lost to Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals of the French Open, after which he withdrew from a number of tournaments due to a stress fracture and a crack in the sacrum.
— Of course, reaching the final is a very important event for Khachanov. Recovery from such an injury as he had usually takes quite a long time. It is worth noting how quickly Karen managed to recover and find his game. All this should once again give him confidence before the fight with Nishioka.
I believe that Khachanov can be considered a favorite, but we should speak about this with rather restraint. The Japanese is a very difficult opponent, and everything will depend on the health of our tennis player,” Vesnina told RT.
