Olympic tennis champion in doubles Elena Vesnina commented on Roman Safiullin’s entry into the finals of the ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu, China.
The day before, the Russian tennis player defeated the second seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals in two sets and will meet the first seeded Alexander Zverev in the decisive match on Tuesday.
“I believe that this year Safiullin made a real breakthrough in his career. He finally overcame the injuries that had plagued him for a long time and managed to improve his level of play. Here it is worth paying attention to what an amazing tandem he has with Andrei Kuznetsov, who is now his coach. Although at a more mature age, Roman found his tennis.
I am sure that he will not stop at reaching his first ATP final and will want more. Competition with Zverev will not be easy – he is a fairly experienced tennis player who knows the taste of victory. But it’s time for Roman to learn how to win tournaments, and I hope that he will succeed,” Vesnina told RT.
