Davis Cup finalist 1995, former world number nine Andrei Chesnokov believes that Russian tennis player Roman Safiullin should soon become the winner of the ATP tournament.
On Tuesday, Safiullin lost to German Alexander Zverev with a score of 7:6 (7:2), 6:7 (5:7), 3:6 in the decisive match of the ATP 250 tournament in Chengdu, China. For the 26-year-old Russian, this final was the first in his career at ATP competitions.
— Zverev was the favorite in the match. This was the first final at the ATP level for Safiullin. Roman’s successes strengthened throughout the year, with the quarter-finals at Wimbledon standing out. With the kind of game that Safiullin showed, he should win a tournament at the ATP level in the near future. It’s a pity that Roman didn’t bring the match to a victorious end today. But reaching the final is also a great success for Roman. “I saw how it was very difficult for Zverev to play against Safiullin,” RB Sport quotes Chesnokov.
