Sakkari bowed to Doi at the finale of her career: “I don’t want to talk about myself today”
Maria Sakkari “injured” Misaki Doi in the last fight of her career, but after the fight between them, she took off her hat and spoke exclusively about her in her statements.
At the height of her triumph at the Guadalajara tournament, Maria Sakkari defeated Misaki Doi (No. 331) in her debut at the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo with 2-0 sets (6:3, 6:1) and booked her ticket for the “8” of the Tokyo tournament.
Nevertheless, the Greek tennis player bowed to her opponent after the end of the match as it was the last match of her career. The Japanese athlete stopped the campaign at the age of 33 because she suffered from chronic back problems.
“I don’t want to talk about myself today. It was an honor to play against Misaki in her final game. You deserve to enjoy life. You deserve to have fun.”
We know how hard life is in tennis. Take some time to rest. I’m sure you’ll find a way to make something special again. It was an honor to play against you. You’ve had a great career, congratulations.” Sakkari pointed out and showed that one should always respect and honor one’s opponents.
