Vice-President of the Russian Tennis Federation (RFF) Alexey Selivanenko commented on the victory of Russian Veronika Kudermetova over the second racket of the world Iga Shventek at the tournament in Tokyo, noting that the beginning of the athlete’s cooperation with coach Dmitry Tursunov influenced her style of play.
On Friday, Kudermetova beat Poland’s Szwiatek for the first time in her career. The quarterfinal match of the tournament in Tokyo ended in victory for the Russian woman with a score of 6:2, 2:6, 6:4. Now Kudermetova will have to play against compatriot Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
In September, Dmitry Tursunov joined Kudermetova’s coaching staff. Previously, he worked with Belarusian Arina Sabalenka, Estonian Anett Kontaveit, British Emma Raducanu and Swiss Belinda Bencic.
— Veronica won an important victory over one of the leaders of the world classification after a not very successful American series. Are there any changes in her game after starting to work with Tursunov? Dmitry, after finishing his playing career, in a fairly short time became one of the most authoritative coaches on the tour. Therefore, his appearance in Veronica’s team certainly adds new features to the athlete’s game and reboots her emotionally,” RB Sport quotes Selivanenko.
