President of the Russian Tennis Federation Shamil Tarpishchev answered a question about a possible change of citizenship by Russian tennis players in the near future.
— Could any of the Russian tennis players change their citizenship in the near future?
— Our tennis players are great. They are holding up well throughout this difficult period. And all these rumors about our guys changing citizenship are completely meaningless and will remain rumors. Of course, everyone wants to play, but our guys are doing great. I think there is no need to discuss rumors,” Sport24 quotes Tarpishchev as saying.
In March, the Executive Committee of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) recommended that international federations, if Russians are allowed to compete, do so individually, in a neutral status, without participating in team events, and also exclude the participation of athletes associated with security forces. Russian tennis players perform at international tournaments in a neutral status.
